Thomas Ratliff, Republican candidate for the Texas State Board of Education today called on fellow Republicans to express their disappointment with Dr. Don McLeroy for voting to replace the previous investment company with a less qualified but more expensive replacement.

"This action by the State Board of Education violates the key principle of fiscal responsibility that is a cornerstone of the Republican Party. We should not let our silence be mistaken for approval of this type of action. Why in the world did the State Board replace a higher rated company with a less experienced and more expensive alternative? If any other state agency spent more money on a less qualified contractor, we would be outraged! We should feel no differently about this decision."

"The bottom line is this amounts to a waste of over $180,000 per year. This equals approximately 3,500 textbooks that could be used by our local schools."

I continue to stand by my statement when I announced my candidacy. The State Board has become a distraction to our local schools and a liability for the Republican Party. This recent poor judgment is just another in a long list of examples."
