Thomas Ratliff

 

Thomas Ratliff, Republican candidate for the Texas State Board of Education, today filed paperwork with the Texas Republican Party to officially become a candidate for the District 9 seat.

"When I announced my candidacy, I said I want to take politics out of public education, restore the relationship between the Texas Legislature and the State Board of Education, and work more cooperatively with parents and educators for the benefit of our schoolchildren. I am proud to say that after almost 7 months of traveling around the district, I am more encouraged about my campaign than ever."

"When speaking to people around the district, I am continually amazed at the lack of awareness of the State Board of Education. Moreover, I am shocked at the number of times I am told by parents and educators that they can't name their own representative on the State Board of Education. There is a serious disconnect between the State Board and the constituents they are supposed to represent. How can they know what schools and their students need if they aren't talking to them, or listening to them? I simply want to offer a different approach."
